Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The growth of electric vehicles is not only focused on electric cars and motorcycles, but also electric buses. Most recently, today (22/12/23), DKI Jakarta has received 26 new electric buses for Transjakarta’s operations, bringing the total to 100 electric buses in operation in Jakarta.
“This is part of the promise to the public to provide 100 electric buses in 2023,” said Head of Transportation Agency Syafrin Liputo in a press release on Friday (22/12/23).
Previously, there were already 74 electric buses that had been in operation. The additional 26 units will operate in Bundaran Senayan and Pulogadung-Pinang Ranti.
In one charging cycle, these electric buses can travel a distance of 250 km. In one operation from 05.00 – 23.00 WIB, these buses are estimated to travel a distance of 200 km, so they do not require recharging or returning to the depot during the day.
“We hope that with the operation of 100 electric bus units, the ability to reduce carbon emissions produced by buses, which were originally using diesel, will increase,” said Syafrin.
In terms of dimensions, the low-floor electric bus has a height of around 3,135 mm, a length of 11,990 mm, and a width of 2,550 mm. It can accommodate 75 passengers.
The Skywell electric bus features disability-friendly facilities, with buttons for disabled people and wheelchair access at the front door. There are also stop buttons on the bus poles to make it easier for passengers to stop.
Looking at the specifications on its official website, the Skywell electric bus has a power of up to 136 hp and can reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
And Damri is tasked with developing infrastructure and supporting facilities for the operation of electric buses at the Damri Pupar Pool, Cakung, East Jakarta.
“This is the first leap to develop an environmentally friendly public transportation ecosystem for the public. It should have been provided on December 27, but it can be realized earlier,” said President Director of Damri, Setia N Milatia Moemin.
