Indonesia and France have a long-standing diplomatic relationship that began in 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron received a warm welcome in Jakarta, emphasizing the strong bond of friendship and respect between the two nations. The grand state welcome took place at Merdeka Palace, with approximately 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels dressed neatly and waving the flags of Indonesia and France. President Macron’s motorcade, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, traveled from Monas to the palace under tight security, enhancing the ceremonial ambiance.
Upon arrival at Merdeka Palace, President Macron greeted the students warmly and was officially welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders walked together to the ceremonial grounds, where the national anthems of both countries were played, accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Prabowo and Macron then inspected the honor guard under Jakarta’s clear blue sky, with Macron acknowledging the enthusiastic students in the palace courtyard.
The ceremony was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s visit to Indonesia also included a trip to the Military Academy in Magelang and a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the shared cultural and educational values between Indonesia and France. Following the welcome ceremony, the two heads of state engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, signifying a deepening of ties between Indonesia and France.
