Preventing Children’s Gadget Addiction Through Physical Activity

by

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka emphasizes the importance of parents staying updated on their children’s interests and encouraging physical activities to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. Speaking at the Double Check discussion themed The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045, organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in collaboration with Gempita, Isyana highlighted the need for parents to continuously learn and upgrade themselves to keep up with their children’s fast-paced learning of online applications. Children often seek “cheap dopamine” through social media or online games, which can lead to addiction. She stressed the importance of outdoor activities and sunlight in obtaining dopamine, emphasizing that the human body is designed for movement. Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, also shared about the Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI) program, which provides safe and inclusive spaces for women, children, and communities to empower, learn, play, and foster creativity. Through RBI, children can engage in traditional games, creative activities, and sports, helping them stay away from gadget addiction.
