Farmers have always held a special place in President Prabowo Subianto’s heart, according to Dedek Prayudi, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). He highlighted two significant moments in Prabowo’s life that forged this deep connection. The first was during his time as a military officer, where he received help from local communities and farmers. The second was when he led the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI).
Recently, Uki attended the grand corn harvest for the Food Security Program led by President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka in Jenggalu Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. He emphasized the importance of the food security program, especially amidst global concerns that require Indonesia to reduce its dependency on foreign food supplies. Uki mentioned that major food-producing countries like India, Brazil, and China could impact global food prices if they were to halt exports, affecting Indonesia as a result.
During the event, a harvest of about 10 tons of corn from 1.5 hectares was achieved. Uki highlighted the government’s support through subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural machinery to enhance cultivation areas and yields, motivating farmers further. He urged the village head to expedite administrative requirements for farmers to access subsidized fertilizers, as only 47 percent of the allocation had been used by August.
Kelik Budianan, Head of the Food Data and Information Center at the National Food Agency (Pusdatin Bapanas), expressed support for President Prabowo’s initiative. He mentioned efforts to collaborate with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to absorb farmers’ corn harvests and integrate supply chains for farmers and livestock breeders. This coordination aims to ensure favorable prices for crops, feed costs, and livestock prices, benefiting the community as a whole. The initiative received positive feedback from various stakeholders present at the event, emphasizing the importance of supporting farmers and enhancing food security in Indonesia.
