JAKARTA, Waspada.co.id – Menteri Pertahanan Prabowo Subianto will receive a special promotion from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to become a TNI general at the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting in Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/28) tomorrow.
“Yes, (Indonesian Minister of Defense) promoted to (the rank of) honorary general,” said TNI Head of Information Center Mayjen TNI Nugraha Gumilar when contacted on Tuesday (2/27).
President Jokowi will attend the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting in 2024 at the TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, Jakarta, on Wednesday (2/28), and is scheduled to directly confer the rank insignia to Prabowo.
Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto is a retired TNI officer with the last rank of three-star general or lieutenant general. Prabowo resigned from the military service after being honorably discharged as stated in Presidential Decree Number: 62/ABRI/1998 signed by the 3rd President of Indonesia B.J. Habibie on November 20, 1998.
Spokesperson of the Indonesian Minister of Defense Dahnil Ahzar Simanjuntak in a different occasion believed that the special promotion given to Prabowo is in recognition of his contributions to the progress of the TNI and the defense of Indonesia.
“The same thing was also given to General SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono), then Mr. Luhut (Binsar Pandjaitan), Mr. Hendropriyono, and several other figures. Giving the full general rank to Mr. Prabowo is based on his dedication and contributions in the military and defense sector. Therefore, Mr. Prabowo was decided, proposed by the TNI Headquarters to the President to be given the full general rank,” Dahnil said in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/27).
Dahnil believed that the award is in accordance with Law Number 20 Year 2009 concerning Titles, Decorations, and Honorary Titles.
He further confirmed that Minister of Defense Prabowo will attend the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting at the TNI Headquarters on Wednesday to receive the honorary rank promotion from President Jokowi. “God willing, tomorrow Mr. Prabowo will receive the honorary rank promotion at the TNI Headquarters,” said Dahnil.
In the agenda of the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting at the TNI Headquarters on Wednesday, Defense Minister Prabowo is scheduled to receive the Presidential Decree on Honorary Rank Promotion from the President of Indonesia at 09.40 AM. The event will take place after President Jokowi gives instructions at the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting.
The TNI Headquarters is hosting this year’s TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting with the theme “TNI-Polri Ready to Realize Defense and Security for Indonesia’s Progress.” (wol/inilah/pel)
